San Saba, Texas - The Perfect Retreat San Saba, Texas was settled 1854 and named for the scenic San Saba River on which it is located. San Saba, Texas is the seat of San Saba County, an agricultural area producing wool, mohair, cattle, horses, hogs and poultry.

San Saba, Texas is also widely known for its pecan crops which are shipped worldwide.

The San Saba and Colorado Rivers are popular with campers and fishermen. During autumn-winter seasons, hunters take white-tailed deer, wild turkey, squirrel, and native game birds.

San Saba Texas

The Colorado Bend State Park offers scenic settings along the banks of the Colorado River. Primitive camping, chemical toilets, hiking trails, and picnicking facilities are featured. There is fantastic fishing in the San Saba River with a fish cleaning site.

Gorman Falls, within the park, is by tour only. Participants caravan from the park headquarters to the Gorman area and hike over the beautiful Hill Country terrain to the falls. The hike is a one-and-a-half mile round-trip. Substantial footwear with rubber soles is recommended. No pets are allowed on the tour. Also, no rest rooms or drinking water is available in this part of the park. There is a tour fee.

Take U.S. 190 east to F.M. 560 13 miles to Bend. Follow the signs to the park entrance. Camping is on a first-come basis. No reservations are taken. There is a limit of 300 vehicles in the park. For more information, phone 325-628-3240 in San Saba, Texas.

San Saba Parks Mill Pond Park includes a small spring-fed lake, waterfalls, a swimming pool, and picnic sites. More than five-million gallons of water flow up through the rocks underneath the lake daily. Other facilities include baseball fields, a pavilion, tennis courts, and playground equipment. Hookups for recreational vehicles are also available. The park is five blocks east of the San Saba, Texas courthouse.

Risien Park is bordered on one side by the San Saba River and offers picnic facilities, playground equipment, a pavilion, volleyball courts, and an amphitheater, all beneath large, shady pecan trees. It is on the east edge of San Saba, Texas on U.S. 190.
