Junction - Land of Living Waters

Junction, Texas was established 1876 with the formation of Kimble County. Today, Junction is a trade and retail center of scenic, sparsely populated area nationally noted for production of fine wool and mohair. Camping, fishing, canoeing and hunting are popular in the Junction area.

Junction has more flowing streams than any other Texas county; year-round fishing. Hunters find wild turkey, deer and game birds during season, and squirrels throughout year. Exotics are also found in the Junction area.

Schreiner (city) Park on Lake Junction has a swimming pool, basketball courts, baseball fields and free overnight camping.

The Kimble County Historical Museum features documents, tools and other relics from the days of early settlers. It also features military artifacts. It is located at 4th and College Streets in Junction, Texas.

The O. C. Fisher Museum is a duplicate of the Washington office of long-time Congressman from this district. It displays memorabilia and gifts received. It is open weekdays in the Kimble County Library in Junction, Texas.

Scenic Drives - Although several are scenic, one of most impressive is U.S. 377 southwest as it travels along the South Llano River. An exceptional overlook is about 22 miles south at a highway rest area.

The South Llano River State Park is a 507-acre wooded park that lies along the winding South Llano River. Abundant wildlife include white-tailed deer, wood ducks, fox squirrels, rock squirrels, javelina, and the Rio Grande turkey.

Note: The majority of the acreage is closed in the fall and winter for resource management and protection. Check with the park in fall and winter for specific dates. Campgrounds are available throughout the year.

Facilities include camping, hiking, wildlife observation, and picnicking. Enjoy canoeing, tubing, and swimming in the spring-fed river. Adjacent to the park is the 2,123-acre Walter Buck Wildlife Management Area. It is located four miles south of Junction off U.S. 377. Call 914-446-3994 for more information.
