Cycling in Kerrville

The Kerrville area, with its wonderful climate, is ideal for cycling. Here are some suggested routes to take you through the scenic Hill Country:

Beginner Rides

  1. Schreiner University Loop - one mile flat, paved road around campus; not too much traffic; lighted.
  2. Kerrville Schreiner Park - Approximately 2.2 miles of smooth, paved loop with some long uphills; no traffic most of the time.
  3. Town Creek Road - From Schreiner Street to Old Harper Road; beautiful 6-mile out-and-back ride along Town Creek.


Intermediate Rides
  1. Guadalupe River Route - Texas 173 left on Wharton Road/River Road to Center Point. From Kerrville Schreiner State Park to Center Point and back is approximately 18 miles; relatively flat.
  2. Sheppard-Rees Loop - Bear Creek Road from Arcadia Loop. Left on Sheppard-Rees Road to Thompson Drive across Guadalupe River; snake your way back to Arcadia Loop on side streets. Approximately 13 hilly miles. You can go either way; however, the hills are a little tougher on Sheppard-Rees to Bear Creek.
  3. Lower Turtle Creek Loop - Texas 173 to Lower Turtle Creek Road (2771) to Texas 16 back to town; 21 rolling to longer hill miles from the state park. Out and back on Lower Turtle Creek Road is 12.6 miles.


Advanced rides
  1. Medina Loop - Texas 16 to Medina, Farm-to-Market 2828 to Texas 173 to Camp Verde. FM 480 to Center Point, River Road to Wharton Road back into Kerrville on Texas 173. Approximately 85 miles.
  2. Cypress Creek Loop - Cypress Creek (Farm-to-Market 1341 Stoneleigh Road to Center) Back either on River Road or Texas 27. Approximately 30 miles.
  3. White Oak Loop - Harper Road north to White Oak to Morris Ranch Road to Texas 16. North on Texas 16, to Center Point Road south on Old Center Point Road, south to Farm-to-Market Road 1341 back to town. Approximately 68 miles.

Century rides

There are many good century rides (100 miles) - Vanderpool, Tarpley, Doss, as well as rides beginning from Fredericksburg for those who want to venture farther. Get creative and go exploring! For routes and maps, contact Lisa Nye at (830) 896-6864.
